Welcome to The 3D Printing Applications Course from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign! This course is part of the Coursera Specialization on 3D printing. This Specialization provides a comprehensive examination of all aspects of desktop 3D printing and is taught by a collection of 3D printing experts at the University of Illinois, Autodesk, and Ultimaker. The 3D Printing Applications is the second course in this Specialization.
This course will examine how 3D printing is being applied across a number of domains, including design, manufacturing, and retailing. It will also demonstrate the special capabilities of 3D printing such as customization, self-assembly, and the ability to print complex objects. In addition to business applications, this course will also examine how individuals, including those in developing countries, are using this technology to create solutions to the problems they face. This course will also provide an overview of design thinking and how you can use this framework to develop ideas that can be turned into objects. As an active learner completing this course, you will obtain a rich understanding of the capabilities of 3D printing and how to think about designing objects for this new technology.
The course consists of orientation activities and four modules. The Orientation provides both an overview of the course as well as our 3D Printing Specialization. It also includes the course syllabus, and information about becoming part of the learning community on our social channels and additional resources. So, we suggest that you explore this part of the course before proceeding with the rest of the course material.
